Anyone with an interest in ancient civilizations may find this interesting: link
It’s a collection of photographs by the British Museum of severeal sites in Iraq that they are trying to study / restore. Some of them look pretty cool! I think I’ll be checking out the Babylonian exhibit at the British Museum in my christmas holiday…
Crappy day September 6, 2008

Today has not been good. Started off with going for a run this morning, in which I managed to hurt both my legs. They either got too used to walking, or needed a longer rest after the Alps. Then I had to replace the pre amp tubes in my amp as they blew last night (they’re a bit old…), which means I haveto wait a week for new tubes to arrive before I can use my amp again. And to cap it all offf…
some prick drove into me as I was reversing into the drive. Which means I can’t use the car and there was insurance hassle. Fortunately, the damage was mostly superficial, and the car is still usuable. And tonight I spilt cold tea over myself. *sighs* Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Octopush nationals February 24, 2008

Got back from the octopush nationals a few hours ago, and I am completely exhausted! The team did very well, coming 10th out of 13. We beat two teams that beat us last year, so that is a good sign that we have improved a lot, and we also learnt a lot, and plenty of fun was had xDThe day started off well, beating the first team we played, which was a good morale booster. Unfortunately every team we played after that was solid xD We beat Durham later in the day and I can’t remember the other team we won against, but lots of fun was had, and it was certainly a good bit of exercise! Afterwards we headed off to the afterparty, which was good fun. Unfortunately I wasn’t really feeling it – tired from the day’s events / full etc, and ended up going on a small adventure around the university which was a laugh. Ended up with some glowsticks and some amusing photos xDHeaded back today, got back around lunch time ish, and now off to the pub to find everyone for a drink. Can’t afford to eat there, so I think I’ll be having a pint then heading home for food. Also, I should write an interesting post some time xD
Megadeth! February 17, 2008

I’m off to see Megadeth on Wednesday, should be awesome
Hopefully t shirts won’t be ridiculously expensive
I got another one of my computers running today – it now has a full compliment of hardware in it. Just need to get an OS on it. I was thinking of putting Xubuntu onto it. Going to plug my external into it and then use Xubuntu to share it across my windows and mac network. Might use it for sharing my printer across my mini network (that is growing by the month as I fix more computers xD), but I suspect that is more hassle than it is worth. Direct USB for now methinks.
3/6 computers up and running now
I need a new PSU and a PCMCIA card (maybe…) to get two of the other computers running, and a fan and a CD drive to get the last one running. The last one is probably not worth it at all though, as it is a ridiculously low spec machine. I was thinking of putting freeNAS onto one of them, but it only writes to UFS
I ideally would want it to share my external hard drive. Maybe I’ll use it to backup important files onto, but it’s yet another format to use xD
Some old photography February 5, 2008

I’ve been trying to go through some old photos and touch them up in photoshop lately. Mainly trying to make my deviantart page presentable xD So far I have succeeded in doing one photo (it’s obvious) and making a new deviantID (the picture above my bio). I think I did a good job on it though. Just wish I had more time for this sort of thing! The stage managing at battle of the bands went ok. The other stage managers and I managed to get the bands on and off the stage very quickly, which was good. Ended up finishing 40 minutes early even though we started late! The RP for that night was a tad useless though, causing big delays at the beginning and a lot of stress on everyone! The highlight of the night had to be the free pizza xDYou can listen (and watch!) to all the bands that played here. Now I’m back off to do some physics. Electromagnetism methinks…..

Is not good. While enjoying my lie in this morning (well, until 9am), I recieved an awakening text from someone asking aout some bandsoc gear. Admittedly, I should have sorted this out last night. So, I gave them a time, which was an hour later than I hjad intended to get it, so here I am on campus blogging. And looking at lolcats
Anyway, next week is looking busy. I’m helping run the university ‘battle of the bands’, and I am co stage managing on two nights / guitar tech / helping with gear / making sure no-ones breaks anything! Sounds very hectic but it should look good on my CV
Anyway, I’m back of to procrastinating, later.

Today, I have nothing on! Awesome
Today’s ‘High Energy Observational Astronomy’ lecture was cancelled, so I got a lie in. I’ve spent the day sorting out my entry for a photographic competition run by the Austrian Alpine club. I’m hopeful about winning at least one category that I’ve entered. I’ll put the good ones up on my deviantart site soon. Might go through some other pictures later and work on a couple of photoshops I have on the go – also going on deviantart when I’ve finished. Been listening to Rush and Sabaton lately, some good stuff. I’m currently searching for the Rush song played in an episode of Futurama! I’m off to tinker in photoshop, enjoy!
The new year January 7, 2008

So, no posts for a while now, guess I’ve been neglecting my blogging. I am, however, trying to turn it around! My second term of my second year at uni has started. I don’t have anything on until week 2 though, so I’m (trying!) to get some revision done this week, rather unsuccessfully. Instead I’ve put a new pickup in my guitar and started fixing the pile of computers in my room. One down, 3 to go! In the process, I have discovered two of my hard drives are virtually unusable, one is boned and will be taken apart, the other might be ok for some linuxing. I’ve got back into playing my guitar over the Christmas holidays, it was neglected last term due to my workload. Hopefully I’ll be able to organize my time better now. It’s now been just over 4 months
Hopefully more updates will follow on a regular basis!

Got back from Bloodstock Open Air Sunday morning – had such a good time. Got to see Firewind, Testament, Dark Tranquility, Freedom Call, Korpiklaani, Epica, a bit of Lacuna Coil, Finntroll, DreamEvil and Sabbat. Of all of those, Dark Tranquility was definately the best – I have been wanting to see them for ages and they put on a great show!
Also got to meet loads of new people which was great
It ran for 3 days (Thursday – Saturday) with bands playing until 23:30. Saw 2 – 4 bands a day and spent hte rest of my time hanging out with people and drinking ale (My mates I was camping with and I got 72 pints of hobgoblin between us
).
Only bad time was a hangover that had the effects of food poisoning, although I’m convinced it was partly due to a dodgy cheeseburger lol.

is the plan for tomorrow – go into town and find some bar work for a few days (hopefully I won’t need a CV for this
) to supplement my few days a week gardening. Hopefully if I do get some it will make me financially cosy and I won’t have to worry about what I spend on holiday
Didn’t get up to much this weekend, went through some lessons in a guitar magazine I had lying around (Ive got about 5 I’ve barely looked at) which had some good exercises. One has a Racer X song I want to go through called ‘Technical Difficulties‘ which will be good. Spent alot of time this weekend learning the intro to ‘Green Tinted Sixties Mind‘ by Mr big – great tune.
Watching top gear winter olympics atm and battlestar gallactica season 3 (which is brilliant!).
Laters !
