Octopush nationals February 24, 2008

Got back from the octopush nationals a few hours ago, and I am completely exhausted! The team did very well, coming 10th out of 13. We beat two teams that beat us last year, so that is a good sign that we have improved a lot, and we also learnt a lot, and plenty of fun was had xDThe day started off well, beating the first team we played, which was a good morale booster. Unfortunately every team we played after that was solid xD We beat Durham later in the day and I can’t remember the other team we won against, but lots of fun was had, and it was certainly a good bit of exercise! Afterwards we headed off to the afterparty, which was good fun. Unfortunately I wasn’t really feeling it - tired from the day’s events / full etc, and ended up going on a small adventure around the university which was a laugh. Ended up with some glowsticks and some amusing photos xDHeaded back today, got back around lunch time ish, and now off to the pub to find everyone for a drink. Can’t afford to eat there, so I think I’ll be having a pint then heading home for food. Also, I should write an interesting post some time xD
Megadeth! February 17, 2008

I’m off to see Megadeth on Wednesday, should be awesome
Hopefully t shirts won’t be ridiculously expensive! Will be great to see my girlfriend too, as I haven’t seen her for a while now
I got another one of my computers running today - it now has a full compliment of hardware in it. Just need to get an OS on it. I was thinking of putting Xubuntu onto it. Going to plug my external into it and then use Xubuntu to share it across my windows and mac network. Might use it for sharing my printer across my mini network (that is growing by the month as I fix more computers xD), but I suspect that is more hassle than it is worth. Direct USB for now methinks.
3/6 computers up and running now
I need a new PSU and a PCMCIA card (maybe…) to get two of the other computers running, and a fan and a CD drive to get the last one running. The last one is probably not worth it at all though, as it is a ridiculously low spec machine. I was thinking of putting freeNAS onto one of them, but it only writes to UFS
I ideally would want it to share my external hard drive. Maybe I’ll use it to backup important files onto, but it’s yet another format to use xD
In the meantime, you should all take a look at Some Awesome Photos that my girlfriend has been taking! Enjoy xD
On the train February 10, 2008

So I’m on my way back from an awesome weekend visiting my girlfriend. Was great to see her again! Was a bit of a celebration too as she now has a job
There was much pizza and Stargate involved xDNot much has happened since my last post. General uni business as always. I’m hoping to get a freeNAS box running next weekend. Might go get a wireless card for it at some point. I’m on the train atm. Missed the train I was meant to get due to traffic so I just jumped on the next one I could. No inspector yet but I should be able to blag it *I hope* if one does show up. Almost at York so fingers crossed!I’m also hoping to get some more linux going soon, been using linuxzoo.net to brush up on terminal skillz - I have learn’t alot! It is pretty damn good
It lets you log into a remote virtual machine, by browser or SSH, on which you follow a set of exercises in order to learn the shell interface better. Well worth it if you are new to unix! Should be arriving in York for an octopush match soon - if we win this one ther eis a good chance we will win the league! Woo! :D Also, wp now lets you upload 3gb of files. Neat, eh ?
Some old photography February 5, 2008

I’ve been trying to go through some old photos and touch them up in photoshop lately. Mainly trying to make my deviantart page presentable xD So far I have succeeded in doing one photo (it’s obvious) and making a new deviantID (the picture above my bio). I think I did a good job on it though. Just wish I had more time for this sort of thing! The stage managing at battle of the bands went ok. The other stage managers and I managed to get the bands on and off the stage very quickly, which was good. Ended up finishing 40 minutes early even though we started late! The RP for that night was a tad useless though, causing big delays at the beginning and a lot of stress on everyone! The highlight of the night had to be the free pizza xDYou can listen (and watch!) to all the bands that played here. Now I’m back off to do some physics. Electromagnetism methinks…..
